This book, Desktop Angel Tutorial, is a walk-through of some of the features and functions you will encounter using Desktop Angel, including:

Game

Clicking on the " Game " button will activate the game tab. By double-clicking, you can amuse yourself with some games .

With those cool games, you can make a quick amusement for some short breaks. It is not too easy but easy enough to play a game in a few minutes. Those things are games which challenge some thinking, but not too much, since it is still to be a break.

1. Gobang

Other names: Go-Moku and Five Stones; the game has been marketed as Pegety, Ren-ju, Spoil Five and Pegfive.

Player required : 2 players.

Description : A challenging alignment game.

Duration : Depending on the size of the point-grid, a game can take from a few minutes to an hour.

Go-Bang is a popular ancient Oriental board game, more commonly known to North Americans as Go . GoBang is a fairly simple alignment game that is very similar to Tit-Tat-Toe . The original Go is a complex board game that can go on for hours or even days.

Go-Bang can be played on a traditional Go board, a grid of 19 vertical and 19 horizontal lines, on a checkerboard or on a hand-drawn grid of any size. The playing pieces are called stones. Playing with pebbles is more fun, especially if you play the game on a grid drawn in the sand. The pieces in Go-Bang are placed not within the squares but on the points , the intersections of the lines. The bigger the board, the more playing pieces you need-and the longer the game and more fun it is.

The board : Draw a beginner's grid with nineteen vertical lines and nineteen horizontal lines, and enclose it in a box. The board is empty when the game begins.

Playing pieces : Each player has a pile of distinctive pieces, the number is determined by the size of the grid. A nine-by-nine grid has 81 points, so each player needs at least 40 pieces. Because pieces are not moved on the board, players can draw X's and O's instead.

Object : To place five stones in a row, vertically, horizontally or diagonally.

How to play : Players decide who goes first. The first player takes the darker stones and puts one on any point. Players then take turns placing their stones on the board, trying to get exactly five in a row or to block their opponent from doing the same. Stones are never moved from point to point.

The first player to get five stones in a row wins; more than five in a row does not count.

Strategy : As soon as a player lines up four stones with a vacant point at each end-an open four -she automatically wins; her opponent can place a stone to block one end, but he cannot block both ends in one turn.

A player is also in a position to win as soon as he has three stones in a row with vacant points on both ends; he need only lay down another stone to be one inevitable step from victory. Consequently, when a player gets three in a row, even if there are gaps of one or two points between the stones, he says "Three" so that the other player knows enough to block the play. This may seem like giving yourself away, but as Edward Lasker, Go player since 1907, explains in his classic manual, Go and Go-Moku, "There is no fun in winning a game owing to a blunder of the adversary.... The idea is to win the game in spite of the opponent's seeing every threat."

To win Go-Bang, you have to play on more than one front, building two or more rows at the same time. Very early in most games, you will be able to play a stone that forms two rows of three at the same time, both of which can lead to open fours and victory. Because this is such an easy triumph, the Chinese play by the rule of three and three: a player cannot form two rows of three with a single play if both can be developed into an open four. This rule can be broken if making two rows of three is the only way to block an opponent from making a row of five. Beginners can ignore the rule of three and three-the game is quite absorbing without it-but for experienced players, it heightens the challenge.

In general, try to break up any attempts by an opponent to mass his stones; he can easily build out in several directions from a clump of stones. On the other hand, try to mass your own stones. Avoid getting into the position of playing an entirely defensive game, blocking your adversary at every turn, rather than building your own rows. For example, in the game illustrated, the player with the kidney beans successfully massed her stones. Her opponent can block the diagonal four in a row, but on the next turn, she will complete a horizontal open four on the fourth line from the top-and assure her victory.

Variations:

An unnamed game on a similar principle can be played on a grid of seven dots across and six dots down (42 dots). One player is 0 and marks her dot by drawing a circle around it; the other is X and marks his dot by drawing an X through it. Players decide who goes first and take turns marking dots, trying to get four in a row, horizontally, vertically or diagonally. The first player must begin by marking a dot on the bottom row. The other player then marks a dot directly above the previous dot or anywhere in the row beside it. Play continues this way, each player allowed to mark only above or in the row beside the previous mark.

2. Winlinez

Winlinez is a small, fun logic game in which you try to score points by building horizontal, vertical or diagonal lines consisting of five or more single-colored balls. You can make these lines by moving balls into vacant squares.

You must try to score points more than the "King" who has 100 points. And if you want to make high score you will have to find some rules like: keep connecting, flexibility, urgent point and so on. It is far away from Go but it was this game who make me wanted to learn Go.

The game field is a square divided into 9 x 9 cells on which balls of different colors appear every once in a while. Your goal is to reach the maximum score and to capture the Main prize-the Golden Crown of the Champion. Points are given every time you manage to remove some balls from the field. Only horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines consisting of 5 and more balls of the same color can be removed and thus be disappeared from the game field. You can create such lines by moving the balls around the field. A ball can move along vertical and horizontal (but not diagonal!) lines if no other balls stay between its initial and destination cells. Jumps over other balls are not allowed. In one move you can transfer only one ball regardless to the length of its path. After your turn, three more balls are dropped onto the field (their colors and location are random). It occupies little, but it has a very great addiction. Thus, every next move is going to be more and more difficult for you! But if the result of your move has made a line disappear, the next portion of balls will not appear immediately.

3. Tetris

Tetris is a computer puzzle game in which various shapes each made of four squares are falling down a well. The user turns the pieces around and moves them left or right in order to arrange them on top of the other. When a solid line of squares is made from edge to edge, the line dissolves and all the pieces move down by one square. When the lines dissolve points are won, when the well fills up the game ends. Players work hard to keep the well as empty as possible, but as the game progresses the pieces fall faster and faster making that harder.

Rules : Different shaped objects are falling down from the top of the screen. There are seven different blocks, formed like letters I, J, L, O, S, T and Z . Each object consists of four squares. Using the Hotkey to be set by clicking setting on the keyboard , the player can rotate the objects by 45 degrees and move them left or right. The main dialog box of setting the hotkey is as follows:

The goal is to complete as many horizontal rows as possible. Completed rows disappear from the screen. Your aim is to arrange them in a way that they form horizontal lines. A line is when there is always a part of a brick on the same level. As soon as the screen is filled with objects up to the top, the player looses.

Warning : You should not tick the Enable item in the left field if there is one player.

4. Same Game

How to Play :

The goal of "The SAME Game" is to remove all of the Balls from the playing field. Balls are removed in groups of two or more of the "same" type --hence the name of the game.

Click two or more blocks of the same type that touch horizontally or vertically to make them disappear. Match the adjacent spheres of the same color to clear the board. The more balls that are removed on the same play, the more point you will earn for that play.

The game is over when all balls have been removed or there are no more groupings of 2 or more.

Scoring :

The scoring formula is: Click Score = (Number of Balls - 1) squared. So for example, if you are removing 12 balls in a single click, it would be worth (12 - 1) ^ 2 which is 11 x 11 or 121 points for that click.

If you remove all the balls from the playing field, you will earn a 1000 points bonus.

Controls :

Move your mouse over any group of balls and they will highlight. You can see the score of what that play would be worth in the "Score:" field. When you want to remove a group of balls, simply click to remove them. You cannot remove a single ball. The balls above the ones removed will fall. If an empty column is formed when balls are removed, then the balls to the right will slide left. By clicking TopScore button, your personal high score for each variant can be got.

Strategy :

Choose one type of ball and work towards removing most of them with a single click. Often, the best choice is the type that has the most. Alternatively, it can be good to choose the type of ball that would be the hardest to group together and start by eliminating those. For example, if there is a column that is void of that type of ball, you may have a hard time grouping them all together so start with that type. You should plan ahead to make sure that when you finally remove your major grouping that any stragglers can be paired up at the end. For example, you do not want to have a large grouping where there is one ball of that type left ungrouped because then you cannot pair it up at the end. It is often good to remove minor groupings towards the top that match up during the development of your major grouping. However, there are times when removing a minor grouping at the top of a column (especially when the grouping is aligned vertically in a column) is not a good idea. In general, leave minor groupings alone if you will be able to remove them later no matter what else happens since you may need these minor groupings at the end to get the win game bonus. After you remove your major grouping, you will be left with a manageable amount of balls left.

Receiving and dispatching mail

Clicking on the " Mail " button will activate the mail tab. You can choose between Mini mail and Professional mail . For both, by left-clicking, you can receive and dispatch E-mail. The latter is professional one for more complex functions, for example: Microsoft Outlook (You should configure it as the default E-mail client). For the Mini one, the main dialog box is as follows:

How to add the first Account

Click the " New Account " , and then go to Create New User Account to set up mail server

You can right click the existing account to open Property dialog box then select the Mail Server later, the dialog box contains the following items:

User Name : Your account name or nick name to distinguish with other users who share this PC.

SMTP Server : Your outgoing mails will be sent from this mail server. The format shall be a domain name (e.g. smtp.yahoo.com) or an IP number (e.g. 216.145.54.172).

POP3 Server : Your incoming mails will be saved in this server. You may download those mails by Desktop Angel Client. If the SMTP Server and POP3 Server are the same one, please type the same information in this field.

Regarding to the free web mails, you may find the correct information of SMTP Server and POP3 Server. Regarding to other mail box, please consult the relevant technical department.

POP3 Account : This is the Account Name of POP3 Server. Users may receive POP3 mails when typing the correct Password . For example, if your E-mail address is admin@Desktop-Angel.com , please type your Account Name as " admin "

Password : Although this password will be encrypted and saved, however, you may still keep it as blank if you concern the security. If the mail server request ESMTP authentication, system will request to confirm the Password when receiving mails, therefore we suggest you to type the Password in this field.

Leave a copy in server : When tick this function, system will save a copy on mail server even after the mails has been download.

Fill in the account name or nick name in User Name field to distinguish with other users who share this PC. If you have more than one mail box and prepare to create multiple account to manage them, please fill in the corresponding information as this mail account.

Please fill in " SMTP Server " , " SMTP Port " (if it is not 25), " POP3 S erver " , " POP3 Port " (if it is not 110), " POP3 Account " and " Password " .

Warning : POP3 account is your mail account name, which is the characters prior to " @ " in the E-mail address.

Then please fill in Sender Name and Mail Address . System will attach the Sender Name when sending mail; it is convenient for recipient to identity the sender. Mail Address will display on mail, it is convenient for recipient to reply this mail to you.

User can not receive or dispatch mail if the server address is not correct.

Please refer to the help document of those mail provider to obtain the correct server address.

Password is the password of this mail account. If this mail account request ESMTP authentication, you will need to input password as well. We suggest you to fill in the password here.

You can define if you need to leave a copy on server in this step. Click OK to finish the setting.

How to receive and read mails

It is very easy to receive mail if all the setting is correct. Please select an account and click Receive . The Remote mailbox Manager dialogue appears and begin receiving the new mail headers. Then, the receiving status information will be displayed when receiving. System default saving incoming mails in the Inbox folder

If fail when receiving, please refer to the account's setting for details.

In the mail main form, click a selected mail to preview the mail content.

After receiving mails, click Inbox, all the mails will be listed in the Mail List box. Click item of the list box, the mail body will be shown in Preview box.

Desktop Angel default only display the Text of HTML mails.

Attachment

If the mail has attachment, the main dialog box will auto add on an Attachment box to display the icon and file name of the attachment.

If the mail attached more than one file, please select several icons of them, and double click on the attachments to save the selected files.

Save and Send

Click the " New " , and then go to Create New Mail

After fill in the Receiver , Copy to , Subject , Attach and Mail text , click Send to save mail in Sent and send immediately, even sending fail then mail is still save in Sent and queue.

Save as Draft : Save in Draft folder, you can send it next time.

If you only want to send a mail, you can choose Send . If you want to send out the mails one by one, you can choose Draft .

Account Property

Right click the existing account to open Property dialog box. Users can set up Property for each individual account. System default the current SMTP serve as the default mail server, but if the default server is out of order, user can set up another SMTP server as the default server.

Delete and Move

Delete: Select single or multiple mails, click Delete to delete selected mails. The deleted mails are moved to Deleted. If you are in Deleted, it will delete the selected mails directly.

Sort

Click one column header on the mail list box header, you can sort them between descending and ascending.

Calendar

This chapter mainly includes following several parts:

How to calibrate the computer's system time

Firstly choose the proper time server, and then click the Calibrate button to Calibrate the computer's system time. Please choose another time server if your computer can't connect to the time server. You can also check the way to connecting to the internet by clicking the Check Net button.

How to show the different style clock

Click the Clock button, and you'll show the Pop-up menu, and then choose anticipant style clock (for example, the Cartoon clock) , as is the follows:

When you choose the Point clock , you can close it by double-click the pointer.

When you choose the Number clock , you can also close it by double-click the window.

When you choose the Cartoon clock , you can change its skin by right-clicking the window. As is the follows:

How to show the Stopwatch

Click the Stopwatch , and you'll show the Stopwatch. As is the follows:

You can snap multi-counter by clicking the Snap after clicking Start button if you need counters more than one. The Reset button is for restarting time.

Firstly, choose the time zone to be demonstrated, then click add , its time is show in the bottom form. You also delete it by clicking delete if you want not to show it.

How to reveal or hide the application procedure

1. Click the Update to get all the application procedures which are running.

2. Select the one for which you want to set hotkey.

3. Set hotkey in the top-right corner and click save.

Thus, you can hide or show the application by the hotkey you had set. At the same time, you can hide any application by clicking Hide or reveal it by clicking Reveal before selecting it.

How to reveal or hide the current desktop and task bar

If you tick those corresponding options in the left-bottom corner of the dialog box, by "left-clicking" and "right-clicking" your mouse at the same time, it can hide the current desktop and the task bar, and restore it with the same action . At the same time, it will close all the windows to be running except the Desktop Angel if you have ticked the Close Windows button.

How to reveal or hide Desktop Angel

Besides, you can reveal or hide Desktop Angel by setting hotkey in the right-bottom corner of the dialog box. If you do it by this way, you should click save to take effect.

Main Setting

Clicking on the " + " button in the console dialog box will activate the " Setting " option. The main dialog box is as follows:

Transparence : Indicates the transparent value for the console dialog box .

Run on logging on to the Windows : Indicates Desktop Angel will be run on logging on to your Windows-base computer.

Do not tip me on hiding the main window : Indicates if the tip's dialog box is shown when you minimized the console dialog box .

Always on top : Indicates the console dialog box's Z order. By ticking it, the topmost window receives the highest rank and is the first window in the Z order.

If the network interface card or hard disk, that was used to generate a User ID, is removed or disabled, the User ID will change. In this case, please send the new User ID and your license key to sales@Desktop-Angel.com for re-register.

While getting a Machine ID for registration, it's expected that you remove/disable all mobile network interface cards on your computer and disable any VPN connections, so as to make Desktop Angel to generate a changeless User ID according to a fixed card. Surely it's okay to turn on all your network connections during usage the software.
